Executive Summary

The Muslim Community of Yellowknife is in an urgent need of a new Islamic Centre complex.  The current building of the Masjid has a

limited space and is a very old structure built in 1967. Due to the uneven settlement of the ground, it is extremely hard to keep the

building in proper shape. There are obvious signs of cracks on walls, floor and roof of the building. The cracks developed in the roof,

causing water leaks at number of places during the snowmelt and in rainy days.
Our goal is to build the new Islamic Centre, which will be primarily a place of worship, Islamic education and outreach centre

(dawaa), along with a place for family get-together and social events. The new facility will be designed to represent an Islamic look as

well as be coherent with surrounding civic spirits and to have enough area to meet parking requirements. The total cost of the

project is in the range of $2 to $2.5million (CAD).The Muslim Community of Yellowknife is looking forward to complete this project as

early as possible with the support from all funding contributors. We have established project financial sub-committee comprising of

qualified professionals who will be providing financial and progress updates to the community and all donors on a regular basis.

INTRODUCTION

OWe are residents of the City of Yellowknife in the Northwest

Territories, Canada. Newcomers to this city do not expect to see

a Masjid in Yellowknife; however, our small community has a

place to offer five time prayers in congregation. Our existing

Masjid speaks to the region’s cultural diversity and is gathering

place for Muslims of different origins.

From our humble beginning with only few families in 1992, the local Muslim community has now grown to about 300 people.

Keeping in view the growing Muslim population, we are in need of a new building for the Islamic Centre.
